Hidare All... The mental gymnastics proves that people are willing to research, and that is good. BUT People have, and do live in tents, all over the world. But that doesn't mean it is easy,,, or fun. I think you will find that where COB comes into its own, is where the average of the day and night temperatures is very close to the target temperature for the inside... If you can find, or do live in a zone like that, you will need no extra heating or cooling.... The thermal mass of adobe and COB works the same way to average out the extreems... When the average outside temperature is 10°F, as in much of Minnesota, Then you will have to add heat from another source.( I have seen 2 weeks of -35°F for the highs, 1977, Walker, MN ) How thick would the COB walls have to be to store enough enegy for Northern Minnesota without adding extra heat,,,, You may as well live underground...
