Aaron, We used tincans for the roof of a shed in WV many years back and the idea works and worked well. We painted both sides of the cans prior to installation and as with any shingle used a triple overlap (so that there was at least 3 layers of tin over any given spot on the roof). It was a lot of work that wouldn't have been done if there had been either money or any better material available at the time. Good luck. Walt
