[Cob] Re: OpinionsTeresa Banks tbanks98926 at yahoo.comMon Jan 3 20:20:48 PST 2005
Hi Lucinda, I took two classes from the Cob Cottage Company in Oregon. The first one was the Basics of Cob, and the second one, which directly followed it, was Woodworking and Cob. I enjoyed them both, immensely. Both of them were a week long each. Ianto and Linda taught the Basics, and then we had two different teachers for the woodworking one. In the second one, we actually put up a "temporary" reciprocal roof on the cob house we worked on in the first, to help get it through the winter. I met a good friend at the workshop, and we continue to be friends today. She put a cob addition on to her existing cabin, and I spent several days helping her. I am happy to say, that we both felt like we were able to leave the workshops, and have the confidence to be able to tackle a project like that. I haven't actually taken workshops from Becky Bee, or from Elyse ??? up in Canada, but I have read enough and heard enough about them to know that their workshops are also first rate. I think it was important for me at least, to actually jump in there, and get my feet muddy by taking a workshop. Then the books fill in all the gaps that my wandering mind may have missed at the workshop. Hands and feet on is the best, and I think any of the workshops I mentioned would be great. Happy Cobbing!
