[Cob] rocket stove(s)Copper Harding copperharding at yahoo.comSun Apr 3 10:33:39 CDT 2005
Friends, Collective Wisdom, Sidenote first: We had a swimming pool (if you could call something that small a pool) sealed with lime for many years. Worked great! I don't know that I'd want to take a bath in something like that though :) Ok - on to my report, question etc. Firing a cob oven in the middle of winter DOES work. However, digging it out of the snow is a real pain - watch your location when you build! Rocket stoves. Two options discussed in the Evans booklet. A six inch and 30 gallon drum or an 8 inch and a 55 gallon drum. I understand the basics of using mass as the heat storage device. I also understand how cold northern MN can get. I am wondering if it would be easier or if it would give me a steadier temperature to have TWO six inch systems instead of one eight inch system. House is 300+ square feet (est.) plus loft. Nasty north wind and windchill here - except that the house IS somewhat sheltered by some trees (still growing) and a slight hill (on the south side of the hill is the house site) I'm not sure how two different systems would work - IF they would even work. Thoughts? Ideas? Opinions? Thanks, Copper __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail - 250MB free storage. Do more. Manage less. http://info.mail.yahoo.com/mail_250
