I believe in using reasonable caution on items that I plan on ingesting.  
For instance,  I wash my rhubarb before making a pie because I noticed a 
neighbor's dog peeing in the vicinity.  My plan is to compost my pony's 
manure with yard matter for my garden.  I can compost the humanure with yard 
matter to go on the native prairie area or hay field or I can use it in my 
vermiculture.  Better safe than sorry.
