[Cob] cob and The CodeDL dlove7607 at msn.comThu May 3 11:26:51 CDT 2007
Greetings, Dee here. I've been lurking on this list for sometime. My cob experience is with Linda/Ianto and Kiko. I'm currently building ovens. I wondered about all this code talk, it seemed to me this will lead to all those cookie cutter houses you see going up! Creative expression in an individual way is what attracts me to cob. I just need some basic info(which is what I got) then the COURAGE to do this for myself with help from my friends. Putting in a code forces people to turnover their own two hands, two feet, and working thinking problem solving mind to others and then PAY them for doing your thinking for you. As I have read this group over the last few months, I'm aghast that anyone wants 'their'code. The response I got from one lady when I informed her that I am interested in building a cob house, was "I wouldn't want one in my neighborhood. How would you be taxed?" I did a double take. Yeah, she may have a point, how do you tax DIRT??!! I want a cob house because it is also a REASONABLE way to live with a REASONABLE expense to build. With code yup...up goes the price. WHY does anyone want that? Is it because people build with the thought of selling in mind, and making ooodles of profit because they know they want to move in 3yrs or so? I want to build my house and live in it till I die! so I'm not interested in resale value which feeds a hungry monster-the code and it's ravenous offspring! Sign me, No permission from Massa needed For Dirt >> >> A Cob Building code would change all this. Making cob legal >will make it possible for anyone who so desires to be able to build a cob building anyplace they want. " What we need to do is put in the time and effort to persuade people like him that it can. It's doable. There is support for what we are doing; >If we put in the time and effort to provide that reassurance, we will have influenced >the course of history. We can make it happen. >I was in the design business working with contractors and building inspectors. Yes you have it right, all the way and expect the insurance bugs to get into the act and really mess with natural building. Myths are made in congress to make money for the powers that be. That >lets you and me out of the loop. >>The only result I see for the "Codification" of Cob is... >>Yup, sounds like another $250K house going up to me! >>A patriot must be ready to defend his country against his >government. - >>Edward Abbey. >> >Cat here! > > Not force the system to change to meet our needs. The world will make those changes evident >when the time comes. So build your homes where you can the way you know and let the world >find you. Ask yourselves why you want acceptance or permission from masters? >
