[Cob] Animals and cob

Am planning on buying a mule for traveling thye backcountry and was also considering using it to make cob, but wonder if by not using tarps or even pits that are stepped in if there could be less uniformity in the mixture. (Yes, they may have used oxen in the old days and many ancient structures are still standing, but was something else involved such as shoveling the mix by hand now and then? Afterall, an animal that walks in circles will not step back and forth like a human being.)

Saludos.
