[Cob] living roofs

Living roofs have other benefits besides temperature moderation and
can be layered over most forms of insulation. In this climate
(Ireland) they don't combine well with solar panels since the ones
that suit our climate need a more shallow slope than is optimal for
solar collection so we only use them on sheds, not on the house. For
us they are a useful refuge for plants and insects that need better
drainage than they get in our flood prone heavy clay. Personally I
still think thatch takes a lot of beating. But maybe spending all my
childhood holidays in a cob house with a thatched roof being indulged
by grandparents causes a certain amount of bias.
