[Cob] Bottle walls

Someone suggested cutting the bottles in half and butting them edge to edge
to make them able to bridge the thickness of a cob wall. I can't find who
said that, but how do you do that? And do they have to be sealed together
somehow, or is just placing them together sufficient?

Thanks,
Carrie
