My understanding of borax is that it is a fire retardant, mold and fungus inhibitor, an insect and other pest replant, and generally non toxic to humans, although it sometimes has small amounts of arsenic or some other similar highly toxic chemical in it, so babies, or anyone, should not ingest it without testing it first.

I didn't know is was an insecticide.
