hi everyone, i am building a 35ft circular cob house (near bellingham wa).
foundation is in 12 logs radiating out from a cedar center log, there is a
6x6 on the foundation postbased into concrete under each log and fastened on
the top with 4inch wide metal strapping around log and unto 6x6(for
uplift--this being eathquake country and all). got 2x12rafters across top on
12 inch centers,2 layers of 3/4 plywood for 1 1/2 total screwed down(anal
german builder) am about to install reinforced 60mil epdm shortly. here's my
question though.i haven't started cobbing yet but my plan is to leave the
posts on the foundation and cob them right in. has anyone done that? i'm
planning on 24inch walls tapering to 18 inches.will that cause a perceptible
weakness. thinking of drilling in wooden or bamboo dowels into the posts to
hopefully integrate them. anyone have any thoughts on this? uli
