[Cob] Cob, California and "Green Building Code"

Good thinking as codes are one of the major obstacles to alternative
construction.
This code probably has more to do with energy standards and not much
about ways of building. That is covered in the IBC etc.

From what is in this article or rather in the California State
release to which it refers, the code will be based on LEED for NC,
plus some energy benchmarking, and apply to new and renovated state
buildings. Cob doesnt really enter into that - its not a good
envelope material as it has such low heat insulation. Not to
preclude using it however, it can be incorporated and help thermal
mass where appropriate. Possibly in the Innovations section of LEED,
if they keep that general format. Perhaps putting in language that
encourages "local and indigenous methods of construction", that
sounds politically correct.
