Join us for a two-day workshop, hosted by Ray Cirino and Jessica Viola, where we will be constructing a STORYBOOK GAZEBO. This is an old-fashioned BARN RAISING, Folks!

Tiny houses (homes typically between 64 and 300 square feet) are springing up all over the country -- from Vermont to Oregon to post-Katrina New Orleans -- as well as all over the media landscape. They are affordable and energy efficient, they reduce materials consumption, cut your carbon footprint, and they're cute! A tiny house is perfect for an office, art or writing studio, children's playhouse, meditation/yoga space, guest house, or even a fully equipped dwelling. In this intensive tiny house workshop, students will spend mornings and afternoons building a tiny house, including framing, interior and exterior finishes and insulation. Each student will have an opportunity to contemplate how to efficiently utilize space as they create drawings, plans and models for their own tiny houses.

The Storybook Gazebo will be built using recycled materials which you CAN afford and is designed as a kit, so it can be taken apart and moved! It will rotate to fit your comfort zone, one side french doors, the other half solid doors.

Explore design implications for water flow, natural heating and cooling systems, multi-functional space use, maximal edge and creative systems design. We will explore basics of building codes and construction laws in Los Angeles, as well as leave you with some instructions on how to create a drought-tolerant, habitat-friendly, holistic garden on your new front porch!

*Pizza lunch will be provided, baked fresh in Ray’s Dragon Oven*
