Yes, I understood that they weren't using it for an inside application. I
was simlpy suggesting that if they were willing to paint
their exterior concrete walls with a mixture of gasoline and styrofoam
(which on it's face anyway sounds pretty nasty) then they
might also not be aware of the dangers of lead based paints and use those on
their interiors. I was in no way suggesting that
"first world" countries are inherently "better" than third world countries.
There is alot about this country and capitolism that I
despise and am embarrased by. I do think that most people are aware that
many "third world" countries don't have the same
level of education when it comes to these things or the laws are less strict
when it comes to dealing with toxic substances.
That's why so many heartless, money grubbing, American corporations set up
shop in these places right? It's a sad reality
but a reality none the less. Sorry for the rant.

They were not using it for an inside application, only on the cement roofs
to seal. I'm belive it would dry reasonable quickly. Of course it might be
a bad idea, still investigating, of course there are a lot of things get
done by rich educated folks in first world countries that should not be
immiated either, just to make a buck :-)

Not only is it not very natural but it sounds like cancer just waiting to
happen.
I'm sure there are plenty of things the uneducated poor do in third world
countries
that involve the use of hazardous, cancer causing materials but is that
something we
want to immitate? They probably still use lead based paints to cover their
interior
walls too. Don't gamble with your health just to save a buck. :)

I know this isn't very natural, but I heard about some cement roofs being
sealed in Guatamala using old styrofoam and gasoline. Mixed to gether I
guess it melts the styrofoam into some type of a substance that can then be
painted on to the cement and seal it.
This is currently being used on habitat homes in Guatamala.
Has anyone else heard of this. I'll be putting a ferro cement roof over the
outer section of my cob house and have been looking into fibers (looking at
steel and fiberglass) to try to keep it as thin as possible since I am
building by hand and must carry the cement up to the roof.
