Cob: RE: hanging stuff from cob walls.

Since I have wood beams on the ceiling, I have been haning stuff from them with wire (picture etc.)
 
I've heard that you can drill a hole, place  wooden dowl and nail into that. Been planning to try it but haven't yet.

Okay, I am still trying to figure this stuff out. The cob walls dry hard like rock, right? So how you do put up nails to hang stuff? Do you have to pre-plan and insert some wood? 
Thank you to the person from KY that gave input re: codes. We bought (sign papers as soon as they arrive) land in Hardin County.
