Things vary from county to county, state to state, but out here farm buildings that are not for human occupancy, no electricity etc, don't need permits. It was only a few years ago that there was NO building inspections at all here, but now that has changed.
Each locality is different, you must find out by calling and talking to the local inspector.

I wonder how, these co-op farms build multiple cob buildings, houses to barns, and are not bothered by the building code officials.
I do not want to "hide my house" building, so there must be something that can be done. When I do the search on the co-op farms that use cob, the list is huge. How do they manage? I wrote a few, no response as of yet.
