Cob: deciduous trees, sun, and windAmanda Peck ap615 at hotmail.comThu Mar 13 21:19:32 CST 2003
They work that way, sun in winter, shade in summer. Evergreens make a barrier against winter winds, which works just as beautifully if your prevailing breezes in the summer are from a significantly different direction. Not familiar with the Tolpin book. It does look awfully nice. got sample pages opening in another window. The old Ken Kern stuff didn't have the lovely color photos--black and white line drawings instead, made similar points. But only if the land you're on/buying is sited so you can do it. Now that we've opened up the area down by the spring, my big three-cornered bell half-way down the hill, is catching the breeze more. Now let's see if THIS message gets bounced. ....... "Cat here, One of my books suggests the use of trees that loose foliage during the winter as a way of adjusting the suns influence. Also check out a book called The new Cottage Home by Tim Tolpin, has some very nice floor plans that could lend themselves nicely to cob construction. for the good of all Cat" _________________________________________________________________ Tired of spam?
