I thought that lime plaster might do the trick.  They're a problem in our 
area.

I've had some areas that have had problems with fat looking bees that appear 
like the same ones that bore into wood. They don't seem to go too deep but 
one sections has a fairly large number of holes. On one section I plasted 
with a coat of lime plaster and that seem to do the trick for discourage the 
little creatures from more boring.
