 Hi, Please join us at Pine Manor ( http://www.pinemanor.com/) for a natural building workshop the first weekend in September.

Natural Building Workshop, Pine Manor, CA 5-7 September, 2003.

Build a Hobbit styled cottage topped with a living roof of grass

Participate in the creative learning process and the hands on experience of natural building. We will be building a Hobbit House on the back of an existing straw bale wall. It will incorporate straw bales, earthen bags and Cob in the design of a magical abode. This will be a fun and energizing experience. At the end of the workshop, you will have a better understanding of how to work with these natural building materials as well as the process that incorporates and promotes sustainable living along with the incorporation of recycled materials into a beautiful structure.

Facilitators: Preston Bell and Michael Leach
  Preston Bell has assisted and led workshops on straw bale construction and natural earth plastering, working with Bob Bolles of Sustainable Building Systems as well as workshops in New Mexico.

  Michael Leach, builder and residential artist will also be assisting in this workshop. Michael's creativity, knowledge of design and his earth building experience bring an added dimension to the workshop.

Enjoy Pine Manor~
   Part of the fun of this workshop is being able to see first hand the existing structures:

· Cob, Sr. ~a massage studio with a living roof and Rumford-type fireplace

· Cob, Jr. ~a cozy massage/meditation space with hand stripped round wood beams and design elements as well as a ceiling of recycled old wood from the stables.

· Round House ~ a 16' round building made with straw bales and finished with earthen plaster. It has an amazing reciprocal roof made with recycled beams and a radiant heat earthen floor that is a piece of art.

· Cob oven and bench~ built by visiting builders from Cob Works in Canada

· Straw Bale entrance wall and pool wall ~ built in two separate workshops.

    The other treat will be meeting other "down to earth" people, enjoying meals together, maybe a soak in the Jacuzzi or even a swim to cool down at the end of the day.

Fee: $150 for three days - workshop, food and lodging
          $120 for two days - workshop, food and lodging

         $  45 day rate - lunch provided

If you are interested in a work-exchange for some of the cost of the workshop, please contact Gail Warner @ 909-678-2414. E-mail address is: catchgw at earthlink.net
