Cob: new progress picturesDorothy Bothne dbothne54 at yahoo.comSun Aug 24 21:59:55 CDT 2003
Greetings Cobbers from the beautiful Hill Country of Texas! We've posted some new pictures on our home page of the cob-house we're building. http://home.swbell.net/bothne/bear_cave.html A portion of our property is in the 100 year flood plain. You can see the code required openings in the wall near the floor of the workshop which is about a foot below the 100 year mark. For the rest of the house, we're building double to triple width (depending on height of wall) block foundation walls up to 3 feet and bringing in fill material to bring the finished floor well above the flood plain. We're building the house in phases- the first section will be a garage/laundry area with a game room above the garage and a workshop to use as a staging area for the construction (hope to be finished with first phase by next summer). The game room will have a small kitchenette and bathroom, so we'll use the game room as a small apartment while we build the next two phases- the kitchen/dining/office/2 bedrooms area for phase II, and finally in phase III the master bedroom/bath & living room area. yes the house is going to be big, but with four grown kids, 8 grandkids, twelve nieces and nephews and four great-nieces and nephews (thankfully they don't live with us, only visit) , we need a Texas size house.
