[Cob] hybrid systems(cobwood)Kim West kwest at arkansas.netTue Nov 11 15:24:41 CST 2003
What are you referring to as rock dust? We used two different kinds of "sand" in our cob. The first looked like sand but had sharp little pieces of crushed rock in it. It cut our feet so badly that I had to wrap them in duct tape by the third or fourth day of stomping cob else give up and admit defeat. The second load we got was from the dirt hauler's land and it was all natural--just the way it came from the earth. Never had a prob with it and it seems to have done quite well. Will know for sure once the house is finished next year. Besides tourism, our only real industries are lumber and rock. There are always wood scraps available for free/cheap and I have had good success so far using rock dust in the place of sand. The price difference alone between rock dust ($9.50 a ton) and sand ($50.00 a ton) make rock dust the obvious choice as an aggregate in cob. > > Phil Hawn > President > The North Carolina Natural Building Coalition > http://naturalbuilder.org > > > --- On Sat 11/08, jenny walker < jwalker at magma.ca > wrote: > From: jenny walker [mailto: jwalker at magma.ca] > To: coblist at deatech.com > Date: Sat, 08 Nov 2003 10:11:04 -0500 > Subject: [Cob] hybrid systems > > Hello there, another hybrid system Jilly and others that could be done is<br>cordwood.
