Building With Earth: November 2003 Lecture & Workshop Series

Over half the world’s people live in earthen houses. Learn how this
ancient building material is ecological, affordable and fun. Innovative
leaders in the field offer inspiring slideshows and thought provoking
discussion. Practical, hands on workshops teach basic design and
construction techniques.

Lectures will be held at Intaba’s Kitchen, 1115 SE Third, Corvallis on
Saturday afternoons at 3pm. Workshops will be held each following
Sunday in Philomath.

Nov. 8 Lecture/Slideshow: Ocean Liff-Anderson - “The Making of
Intaba’s”

Nov. 9 Workshop: Basics of Cob - Material selection, cob mixing, basic
construction techniques

Nov. 15 Lecture/Slideshow: Kiko Denzer “Artistic Features in Natural
Building”

Nov. 16 Workshop: Cob Building Design - Building siting, drainage,
foundation, roofing, passive solar design

Nov. 22 Lecture/Slideshow: Robert Bolman - “Natural Building as an
Ecological Solution”

Nov. 23 Workshop: Earthen Plasters & Finishes - Interior & exterior
plasters, flooring, color, waterproofing

Co-sponsored by Ahimsa Sanctuary, a permaculture based retreat center
dedicated to peacemaking and Intaba’s Kitchen, an innovative organic
restaurant inspired by sustainable principals. Intaba's features a
massive earthen wood fired oven, an earthen walled courtyard and
interior earthen sculptural features.

Lectures are free of charge. Fee for Workshops: $35 each. Workshop
