I did a search on Ianto Smiley Rob Roy and didn't find the thread on the
first page. But this did come up quickly, from a 2001 issue of Countryside
Magazine, in which cob-wood is used by SOME--not all--of the people involved
to refer to cob + cordwood. Unlike (at least one of the people,) Charmaine
Taylor, who may have invented the word. If you leave Smiley out of the
search you end up with a band called the Night Terrors that has a Rob Roy
and and Ianto in it. Sometimes Google is wonderful. Especially if you put
it as a permanent line in your browser.

a thread turned up a page or two later.

I am new to this list and have searched the archives for references to cob
being used in place of cement masonry in cordwood construction. Someone
suggested there had been some discussion on this topic.
