[Cob] Cob plumbing, wiring

I like the idea of sculpting a channel in the surface of the cob wall to
hide the wiring and/or plumbing in. It could be covered with a hinged piece
of decorative wood, etc.

Question: Would such a channel disturb the structural integrity of the wall?
Has anyone tried my idea already?
