Here's more information on the allusion John Schinnerer's post made to a person who taught a cob class in South Africa.

I dug out my copies of the newsletter published by Cob Cottage Company, the CobWeb, and found in Issue Three: Fall 1996 a letter written by Jan Sturmann who built a house in Hermanus, South Africa. It also seems it did workshops, both impromptu and otherwise, throughout the process. If you can secure a copy of the newsletter, he also included a diagram as well as hints and tips particular for building in South Africa. There is no contact number but I'm willing to bet Cob Cottage Company can help you locate him.

My wife and I are graduates of a Cob Cottage course last summer and now teaching in Abu Dhabi of the United Arab Emirates on the Persian/Arabian Gulf by the Straits of Hormuz. We'd love to come help when you're ready to build. Keep us in mind.
