Cob: bullet resistanceJon K.Walser jon.walser at usa.netTue Nov 16 20:07:49 CST 1999
I asked the question about the resistance of cob to bullets. I live in the United States (Ohio, if it makes a difference). I am not a member of any 'Freemen' type group. However, neither am I as trusting of my fellow humans (jackbooted thugs or gang-bangers) as Mr. Fetter is. The primary purpose of a home is to have a place to be secure in. The most common enemy that we protect ourselves from is the climate, but homes have always been used to give protection from wild beasts and wild men. Do I expect to have shooting enemies outside my doors? Well, actually, yes, but not any time soon...I hope. One of the reasons I asked the question, is I saw some of the damage caused by a tornado recently. I saw a signpost punched through a house wall and I wondered how I would have felt had I been in that home. I saw, on the news a few nights ago, a car that was driven into someone's front room. From the pictures, the walls played no part in stopping the car, the couch and the collapsing of the floor seemed more useful. So, I asked, has anyone shot a cob wall? If so, with what and what were the results. I thought it likely that someone has done so, and I could make an educated guess as to what that might mean in the other situations I referred to. I think it no more unreasonable a question, than to ask how cob reacts to earthquakes. So, has anyone thrown a signpost at a cob wall? ;-) ____________________________________________________________________ Get free email and a permanent address at http://www.netaddress.com/?N=1
