About the 2 foot overhangs.

However and this is important, don't make the overhangs so long that you
can not recieve winter solar radiation to warm the structure.   For
example at about 39 degrees north latitiude the sun's solar noon
altitude on December 21st is about 27.6 degrees.   Do some math or visit
the following site which is very, very helpful for designing overhangs
for optimimum solar gain:
