I can't see the gutter in the photo as it is dark, but I wish I could. Does part of it tuck under the waterproof membrane? 

I've also seen heavy rubber hose sliced and put on the edge...but the hose isn't tall enough to hold much soil.

The hose helps direct drainage, too, with well placed notches.
