Ordinary tin doesn't burnish well, or if it does it rusts right away, and this isn't a particularly pretty or durable surface.  That's the reason for carbon black, or wood stove finishes sold for this purpose.  If you want this pretty and shiny, consider getting containers made out of stainless steel, or a stainless steel cover instead.
