[Cob] Plans ChangedJanet Standeford janet.standeford at gmail.comMon Mar 15 19:31:20 CDT 2010
Well guys, I'm dropping the earth bags from the house and the south wall will now be able to go up 14 feet in just cob. This means the home cut logs will be able to be leveled much easier and the cost will be cut quite a bit. The plans won't be changed but Shane told me he will sign off on the changes I make. As I said earlier, he is changing the plans to lime plaster instead of Portland Cement as well. There are supposed to be guys from OIT mentoring high risk kids from town on this project. I'm hoping to have the plans approved and permit paid by the end of May so the foundation can go in by the beginning of June. There will be plenty of other stuff to do while the foundation is going in, such as tearing apart the travel trailer and plumbing the black water and gray water tanks to the toilet and septic system, last minute designs and the cob oven, setting up camp, etc. If anyone is interested in joining us, please let me know. Everyone that comes has to bring everything they need, even drinking water. There will be the one toilet so you may want a portable toilet or pot that can be emptied as the toilet is available. I do have an army water tank made of canvas with a lid and 3 or 4 spigots. we can use that for a rinse station but you may also want to bring a sun shower with you. Cooking can be done on the cob oven. I've decided to put the cisterns in next spring or summer. They will be two of the largest walmart swimming pools with three feet of cob all the way around and footing insulation 2' down all the way around. Foam insulation on top of the pool covers and earthbag into a dome on top of the cob wall with an access door. BTW Shane said if anyone outside Oregon wants the plans as they are I can give them to you free of charge. In Oregon he charges $400 and has to put his stamp and signature on them. He will not deal with the Portland to Beaverton area. Janet Standeford OR www.buildingnaturally.info (Owned by the worldwide community of alternative material builders) a resource for healthy homes.
