Cob Cottage Company still has openings in the following courses this season:

August 18-22, Natural Finishes and Plasters, Coquille, Oregon (30 miles
inland from Coos Bay on the southern coast of Oregon)   
Make lime casein paints, aliz finishes, fresco, clay, lime plaster.
Application to cob, strawbale and sheetrock, exterior/interior. ($440,
special discounts available.) Instructors Linda Smiley and Janine Bjornson.

August 29-31, Heart, Home  and Health, Coquille  
Weekend retreats bridging and balancing the builder^Òs inner and outer
worlds. Develop skills in intuitive design, expressive cob arts and
developing building practices that honor our bodies. Begins Friday at 6
p.m., ends Sunday at 4 p.m. Cost $200. Instructors include Linda Smiley.

Sept. 7-16, Basics of Building with Cob, Athens, Ohio   
Our most popular workshop teaches professionals and owner-builders the
basics of cob construction in 10 intensive days.  Even complete novices
leave confident in their ability to build the cob parts of a cabin,
studio, or greenhouse.  Learn how to locate and test soil, sand, and
straw, create the right cob mix for any situation, and build strong,
durable, sculptural earthen walls.  Get practical experience with
foundations, windows and doors, niches.  Lectures cover siting, passive
solar design, drainage, heating, plumbing and electric, natural roofing
and flooring. Cost $640. Instructor Ianto Evans.

Sept. 28- Oct. 4 Basics of Building with Cob, Coquille   
See description above. Cost $640 (10% discount, $576 total, if paid in
full by Aug. 28). Instructors Ianto Evans and Elke Cole.

Oct. 6-11 Finish Woodwork, Coquille   
Practical alternatives to buying into forest destruction.  Locating and
choosing roundwood, recycled, demolition and scrapwood. Fitting built-in
furniture to curvilinear and Natural Buildings; using wood to build in
beds, solid doors, counters or cabinets. Cost $480 (10% discount, $432,
if paid in full by Sept. 6.) Instructors Dana Gaab, Ron Sutcliffe,
Michael Shubert.

The fees for all workshops include instruction, materials, camping, and
3 vegetarian meals per day.
