I've used 3 inch long #8 or 3-1/2" #9 "Deck Mate" deck screws, they screw
into the wall without any problems and seem to hold fairly well if not
subjected to alot of stress or movement (they didn't hold up very long
when I tried to hang a temporary door using them :-)
